Toshiji Fukuda　Born in 1948 in Japan

Fukuda says, when I was a child in Utsunomiya the wildlife there was much more prominent. I would always hear Owls and see Fireflies at night and see Kingfishers and many kinds of insects and wildlife by day. My grandmother told me that the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel used to been seen in Utsunomiya. But now they have gone from the area. As the world's population has increased I have seen the amount of wildlife in my own town decrease so I would like my photography and pictures to play a role in reminding others in the future of what we had in the past.

Since 1990 I have been lucky enough to be able to keep visiting Russia with the help of the Russian Academy of Sciences to photograph wildlife that used to live in Japan and Russia but now can only to be seen in the Siberian regions of Russia. My visits there remind me of my childhood in Japan as I can see far higher numbers of the wildlife species our two countries share.
